Government of Alberta Shuffles Cabinet

EDMONTON, AB—Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced changes to the Alberta Executive Council on July 8 in support of economic recovery and renewal.
“Alberta is leading Canada out of the COVID-19 pandemic and into strong economic growth. This renewal of our cabinet will support Alberta’s Recovery Plan, a plan to build, to diversify the economy and to create jobs. With six new voices and strong, experienced ministers moving into important economic roles, Alberta’s government is ready to deliver a strong recovery for all Albertans,” stated Kenney.
Hon. Rajan Sawhney (MLA for Calgary-North East) was appointed Minister of Transport. Minister Sawhney was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on April 16, 2019.
Hon. Ric McIver, former Minister of Transport, will retain his position as Minister of Municipal Affairs. WESTAC thanks Minister McIver for his contributions over the past two years as both an involved WESTAC member and Chair of the Board of Directors.

Hon. Rajan Sawhney Biography
Minister Sawhney was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on April 16, 2019, as the MLA for Calgary-North East.
Born and raised in northeast Calgary, Sawhney is a mother of four, an activist, and an engaged community volunteer. Rajan attended the University of Calgary, earning a degree in Economics and Political Science and an MBA.
Sawhney worked in the oil and gas industry for over twenty years in various roles in economics and business development. Before her election, she served as the Vice President of Business Development for Fracture Modeling Inc.
As an active volunteer, Sawhney is passionate about community engagement initiatives. She has played a key role in leadership with several non-profit organizations. She has also spearheaded several programs and events designed to spread awareness and raise funds for worthy causes. For her community engagement work, Rajan was recognized as a Community Builder by the YWCA for Canada 150.
Rajan Sawhney was appointed as Alberta’s Minister of Transportation on July 8, 2021. She previously served as Alberta’s Minister of Community and Social Services.
