Vancouver, British Columbia-based GCT Global Container Terminals Inc. has been in the container terminal industry for over a hundred years. Its subsidiary, GCT Canada (formerly TSI Terminal Systems Inc.), has been operating on the West Coast since 1907 and is responsible for running both GCT Vanterm and GCT Deltaport. Beyond operating these facilities, GCT Canada has also played a major role in developing Canadas Pacific Gateway. GCT Deltaport, Canadas flagship container terminal, is located at Roberts Bank in Port of Vancouver. It is an 85-hectare (210-acre) facility with three contiguous berths totaling 1,100 metres (3,609 feet). The terminal is designed to handle the largest transpacific container vessels in service and features dual-hoist gantry cranes the first in the Americas in its fleet of ten high-speed, super post-Panamax cranes. The facility employs state-of-the-art computer systems and is undergoing a 50% capacity expansion of the intermodal rail yard making it a premier ship-to-rail terminal on the continent. As part of the expansion project, the terminal will see arrival of two new megamax ship to shore cranes. Boasting a 23+ container wide outreach, the STS cranes will be capable of handling the largest vessels in service worldwide. Upon commissioning, the state-of-the-art cranes will be among the largest in the Americas, standing over 137 metres (450 feet or 45 stories) high, with a lift capacity of 65 tonnes (145,600 pounds). Strategically located in the Burrard Inlet, GCT Vanterm, part of GCT Canada, operates in naturally occurring deep water and is the most productive terminal in Port of Vancouver. It is a 31-hectare (76-acre) container terminal with 619 metres (2,030 feet) of berth, offering six high-speed, super post-Panamax dock gantries, and an on-dock intermodal rail yard. GCT is advancing significant investment plans to densify the terminal by adding capacity and capabilities with additional ship to shore cranes to service big ships, while improving the environment through modernization of equipment from Tier 0 to Tier 4. GCT Container Terminals Inc. also operates two facilities on the East Coast of the U.S.A GCT New York on Staten Island, NY and GCT Bayonne in Bayonne, NJ. GCT is an active member of Green Marine and all four GCT terminals are Green Marine certified.
